Enugu Governor Celebrates Young Mathematics And Science Star Following Gold And Silver Medal Triumph At International STEM Olympiad In Rome

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has received Chimdiebube Onwubiko, a 13-year-old International STEM Olympiad champion, at the Lion Building following the student’s outstanding performance at the global competition held in Rome, Italy.
The young scholar earned a Gold Medal in Mathematics and a Silver Medal in Science, an achievement that has drawn commendation from education stakeholders and residents of Enugu State. The governor described the accomplishment as a proud moment for the state and an example of what young people can achieve through determination and quality education.
Welcoming Chimdiebube, Governor Mbah praised the student’s discipline, dedication, and academic excellence, noting that his success reflects the growing potential of young learners in Enugu State. He said the achievement demonstrates that students from the state can compete successfully with their peers on the international stage.
The governor also recognised the efforts of Chisom Unachukwu, Chimdiebube’s Mathematics teacher, as well as the management of Evergreen Schools, commending their commitment to academic excellence and talent development. According to him, the achievement is the result of consistent hard work by the student, his teachers, and the school community.
Governor Mbah reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the quality of education across Enugu State through the Smart Green Schools Initiative. He stated that the programme is designed to equip learners with modern knowledge, digital skills, and an environment that encourages innovation, creativity, and critical thinking.
According to the governor, the state government will continue investing in educational reforms aimed at helping more children discover their talents and compete successfully in national and international academic competitions.
