Works Minister David Umahi points to federal infrastructure projects in the region and urges residents to look beyond political sentiments and recognise the administration’s development efforts.

ABUJA, NIGERIA — Minister of Works, David Umahi, has urged people of the South-East to look beyond political sentiments and recognise what he described as the Federal Government’s growing attention to infrastructure development in the region.
Umahi said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to integrating the South-East more fully into the country’s national development plans, pointing to ongoing federal projects as evidence of the administration’s intentions.
The minister made the remarks while discussing infrastructure projects being executed across the region under the Tinubu administration. Recent government information has highlighted the rehabilitation and construction of major road projects connecting communities in the South-East and neighbouring regions.
Umahi acknowledged that he has faced criticism and insults from some people in the region for speaking positively about the administration, but said such criticism would not stop him from highlighting the projects being delivered.
He said he believed the current period presented an opportunity to address longstanding infrastructure concerns in the South-East.
According to the minister, his position in the Federal Executive Council has also given him an opportunity to push for projects that directly affect the region.
Umahi said the Federal Government’s interventions should be assessed based on the infrastructure being delivered rather than political sentiments.
He further maintained that the administration’s approach was intended to correct what he described as longstanding shortcomings in the development of the South-East.
The minister also pointed to work on major road corridors in the region, including the Enugu–Onitsha route, as part of the Federal Government’s broader infrastructure programme. The Federal Ministry of Information has separately reported ongoing efforts to revive major South-East road projects.
Umahi’s remarks come amid continuing debate over the Tinubu administration’s relationship with the South-East and the region’s expectations concerning infrastructure, political representation and economic development.
He urged residents to pay attention to tangible development projects and judge the administration based on what is being delivered.
