The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has advanced discussions aimed at securing up to $5.7 billion in strategic investments from Chinese partners to strengthen the country’s industrial and energy sectors. The development marks a significant step in Nigeria’s economic engagement with international investors.

The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, received a high-level delegation from GCL Group in Abuja. The delegation was led by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as part of efforts to deepen bilateral investment cooperation.
According to details of the engagement, the proposed investments span large-scale energy generation projects, local mineral processing initiatives, and the establishment of new manufacturing facilities. These projects are expected to enhance industrial capacity and reduce reliance on raw material exports.
Officials noted that the discussions align with broader economic reforms introduced under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, aimed at repositioning Nigeria as a competitive industrial economy. The strategy focuses on value addition, job creation, and export expansion.
Energy development remains a central component of the proposal, with plans to support electricity generation and improve supply reliability for industries. Strengthening energy infrastructure is considered critical to sustaining long-term economic productivity.
In addition to power generation, the talks include initiatives to expand local mineral processing, ensuring that raw materials are refined domestically before export. This shift is expected to increase revenue retention and support domestic industrialization.
The proposed manufacturing investments would establish new factories designed to stimulate employment opportunities and boost non-oil exports. Economic analysts suggest that such investments could contribute significantly to economic diversification efforts.
The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to creating a stable investment climate, emphasizing policy reforms and regulatory improvements to attract foreign capital and sustain industrial growth.
