Residents in parts of Kwara State were thrown into panic after suspected terrorists reportedly launched coordinated night attacks on several rural communities in Ifelodun and Edu Local Government Areas.

 

The attacks were said to have occurred late Wednesday night when armed men reportedly moved into the affected villages, causing widespread fear among residents who fled their homes in search of safety.

 

Communities reportedly affected include Budesu and Ahun in Ifelodun Local Government Area, as well as Bishewa community in Edu Local Government Area. Villagers said the attackers arrived in large numbers and began firing shots, forcing many residents to run into nearby bushes to avoid being harmed.

 

Local sources within the communities described the incident as chaotic, with families scattered during the sudden invasion. Residents said the attackers appeared to be targeting villagers for possible abductions, a pattern that has been linked to criminal groups operating in parts of northern Nigeria.

 

One resident who spoke on condition of anonymity due to security concerns described the tense situation during the attack. According to the resident, gunshots were heard shortly after the assailants entered the village, prompting many people to flee immediately.

 

Community members also reported confusion among families as they attempted to account for missing relatives after the incident. At the time of reporting, the exact number of people who may have been abducted or injured had not yet been independently confirmed.

 

Residents expressed growing concern about the security situation in rural areas of the state, noting that many villages remain vulnerable due to limited security presence. Some community members said people were still afraid to return to their homes while uncertainty about the attackers’ movements continues.

 

Local leaders have called on security agencies to urgently deploy personnel to the affected communities to restore calm, protect residents, and track down those responsible for the attacks. Villagers also appealed for swift rescue efforts if any residents were taken during the incident.
