Four-Day Summit At IITA Focuses On Strengthening Agricultural Education, Research And Institutional Development In Nigeria

The maiden National Legislative Summit and Expo on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions has commenced at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Deputy Leader of the Senate, Oyelola Ashiru, represented the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, during the opening activities of the summit.
The event, scheduled to hold from May 12 to May 15, brings together lawmakers, agricultural experts, education stakeholders, researchers, policymakers, and institutional leaders from across the country.
According to organizers, the summit is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural education system and enhance the capacity of research institutions to support food security, innovation, and national economic development.
Participants are expected to engage in discussions on policy reforms, agricultural technology, institutional funding, research collaboration, and strategies for improving agricultural training across tertiary institutions.
Stakeholders at the summit emphasized the importance of modernizing agricultural colleges and research centers to meet current economic realities and address challenges affecting food production and rural development.
Analysts say the initiative reflects increasing national attention on agriculture as a key sector capable of driving employment, industrial growth, and long-term economic sustainability in Nigeria.
