Iran has warned that the confrontation with the United States could enter a more aggressive phase if diplomatic efforts fail to produce an agreement, placing renewed attention on the Strait of Hormuz.
A senior Iranian official said Tehran was considering a shift from a defensive military posture to what he described as a fully offensive approach following a lack of progress in efforts to resolve the conflict.
The warning comes as attempts to revive an interim peace arrangement reached in June have stalled.
The earlier understanding was intended to provide a temporary framework for reducing hostilities and creating conditions for broader negotiations. However, the arrangement has since broken down, leaving the two sides without a clear path towards a permanent settlement.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a central concern because of its importance to international energy shipments. Large volumes of oil and other energy products pass through the waterway, making any prolonged disruption capable of affecting shipping and global energy markets.
