The Nigerian Navy and Marine Police have intensified efforts to recover the bodies of victims and the wreckage of a Nigerian Air Force aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The aircraft, carrying 25 people comprising 20 passengers and five crew members, crashed into a swampy area near the Naval Base in Igbokoda at about 9 a.m. on Monday.

Recovery efforts have been complicated by the difficult terrain, with the aircraft remaining submerged in the swamp. Authorities are awaiting heavier equipment capable of helping to remove the wreckage from the water.

Ondo State Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu said Marine Police officers were working alongside the Navy and local residents in efforts to recover the victims and aircraft remains.

Movement around the crash site has also been restricted as residents and sympathisers continue to gather in the area to observe developments.

The operation remains ongoing, with security and emergency personnel working to gain access to the submerged aircraft and recover the remains.

The Nigerian Air Force had earlier released the names of the five crew members and 20 passengers aboard the aircraft and expressed condolences to the families of those who died in the crash.

Further details are expected as recovery operations continue and authorities provide additional information.
