Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s assessment of Nigeria’s economic performance, arguing that conditions within the manufacturing sector tell a different story.
In a statement, Atiku contended that the reported closure of 767 manufacturing companies and the financial distress facing 335 others undermine claims that the nation’s economy is experiencing broad-based prosperity.
According to the former Vice President, the situation within the manufacturing industry reflects the economic challenges confronting businesses, including rising production costs, inflationary pressures, and an increasingly difficult operating environment.
Atiku maintained that economic progress should be measured by the performance of businesses, employment opportunities, industrial productivity, and improvements in the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians rather than official declarations alone.
