The President receives the re-elected Osun governor in Abuja and challenges him to use his fresh mandate to promote unity, peace and effective governance.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, days after the governor secured re-election in the state’s governorship election.
The meeting took place on Thursday, August 20, 2026, following Adeleke’s victory in the August 15 governorship election and his receipt of the Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission.
During the meeting, Tinubu congratulated Adeleke and urged him to look beyond the immediate celebration of his electoral victory and focus on what he can achieve for the people of Osun State.
The President told the governor that he was in a unique position to make history through his renewed mandate and encouraged him to promote unity, peace and stability in the state.
“You are in a very, very unique position to make history, expand your coast, because that’s the only way you can give thanks to Osun people, not the way you found it but the way you act,” Tinubu told Adeleke.
Tinubu also advised the governor not to regard his political opponents as people he had conquered, stressing that an electoral victory should be followed by responsible leadership and reconciliation.
The President urged Adeleke to avoid actions that could stigmatise his political opponents and encouraged him to use his second mandate to bring people together.
Adeleke, who visited the Presidential Villa following his re-election, expressed appreciation to Tinubu and acknowledged the President’s role in allowing the electoral process to take place.
The meeting comes at an important point for Osun State as Adeleke prepares to continue his administration following his victory over the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in the August 15 governorship election.
Tinubu’s message ultimately placed the focus on governance after the election, urging Adeleke to use the confidence placed in him by voters to deliver meaningful results for the people.
The governor now faces the task of translating his renewed electoral mandate into governance while managing political differences and responding to the expectations of residents across Osun State.
