The President spoke to journalists in Lagos after returning from an extended European working vacation, dismissing concerns about his health and saying he was ready to continue his duties.

President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after an extended stay in Europe, telling journalists in Lagos that he enjoyed his vacation and was ready to resume his official responsibilities.
Tinubu arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday evening after spending about four weeks outside the country. He had departed Nigeria on August 30 for what the Presidency initially described as a three-week annual vacation.
Asked about his experience during the break, Tinubu said he enjoyed himself, describing the vacation as “fantastic.”
The President was also asked about concerns that had circulated during his absence regarding his health. In response, he said he was ready to continue working and insisted that there was nothing wrong with him.
“Ready to kick, ready to walk. There’s nothing wrong,” Tinubu told journalists, adding that he was “healthy, sound, and ready to go.”
His return follows an extension of the stay beyond the initial three-week period announced by the Presidency. During the trip, Tinubu spent time in London before proceeding to Paris, where he held a number of official and private engagements.
The President’s absence from Nigeria also coincided with the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. Vice President Kashim Shettima led Nigeria’s delegation and delivered the country’s national statement at the gathering.
Tinubu’s prolonged stay abroad had generated public discussion and political debate, particularly concerning his health and the length of his absence. The Presidency maintained that he remained in contact with developments in Nigeria and continued directing government affairs while abroad.
Following his arrival in Lagos, Tinubu was received by senior government officials and political figures, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.
The President is expected to remain in Lagos for a series of engagements before returning to Abuja. According to the Presidency, his programme includes meetings with political associates and activities connected with Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary on October 1.
Tinubu’s first public comments after returning to the country have therefore addressed both his personal experience during the vacation and questions surrounding his readiness to resume official activities. His declaration that he is healthy and ready to work marks his return to the centre of national affairs after several weeks in Europe.
