Court Orders Destruction Of Oba Shrine, Bans Okeite Practice, And Assigns Youth Re-Orientation Role

A court in Anambra State has sentenced popular native doctor Chidozie Nwangwu, widely known as Akwa Okuko, to 11 months imprisonment. The ruling follows legal proceedings in which the court determined sanctions against him.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the court ordered the destruction of his Oba shrine as part of the enforcement measures tied to the judgment. Authorities are expected to oversee compliance with the directive in accordance with the ruling.
The court further directed that Nwangwu serve his sentence at the Awka Correctional Centre. Correctional authorities have been mandated to ensure full adherence to the terms of imprisonment.
As part of the judgment conditions, the court prohibited him from continuing the practice of Okeite or administering charms upon completion of his prison term. The ruling effectively restricts his return to such traditional spiritual activities.
The judgment also requires that he publicly denounce the practice of Okeite after serving his sentence. Legal observers note that such conditions are often imposed to reinforce behavioral change and discourage future violations.
In a notable directive, the court further ordered that Nwangwu assume the role of an Ambassador for Youth Re-Orientation following the completion of his sentence. The initiative is intended to support awareness efforts targeted at young people.
