The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned an alleged serial fraudster, Titilayo Eboh, before a Lagos court over an alleged N1.8 billion foreign exchange fraud case.
According to investigators, the suspect is accused of engaging in fraudulent financial dealings involving foreign exchange transactions that allegedly resulted in significant losses to multiple victims. Authorities said the case involves a complex network of financial promises and transactions linked to forex trading activities.
During the court proceedings, prosecutors presented details of the allegations, stating that the suspect allegedly collected large sums of money from individuals and business partners under the pretense of facilitating profitable foreign exchange deals.
The anti-graft agency explained that the funds were reportedly obtained through representations that promised high returns from currency trading operations. However, the expected returns allegedly failed to materialize, prompting complaints that triggered an investigation.
Investigators further revealed that financial records and transaction trails were examined during the inquiry, which led to the filing of formal charges against the defendant. The charges are connected to alleged fraudulent conversion of funds and related financial offenses.
The court heard that the alleged fraud amounts to approximately N1.8 billion, making the case one of the significant financial crime matters currently under prosecution in Lagos State.
Legal proceedings are expected to continue as the court examines evidence presented by the prosecution while the defendant is given the opportunity to respond to the allegations in accordance with the law.
The EFCC has reiterated its commitment to tackling financial crimes, particularly schemes involving fraudulent investment and foreign exchange dealings that affect individuals and businesses.
