Senior Police Officer Alleges ₦500,000 Operational Funds Withheld And Raises Concerns Over Illegal Posting Of Orderlies To LG Chairmen

An Area Commander in Borno State, Alex Sani Gwazah, has submitted a formal petition to the Inspector General of Police alleging that his operational allowances were withheld after he refused to participate in what he described as an illegal kickback arrangement.
In the petition dated March 2, 2026, the senior police officer accused Naziru Abdulmajid of allegedly withholding his ₦500,000 operational allowance covering January and February 2026. According to the petition, the funds were part of a special financial intervention reportedly provided by the Borno State Government for officers of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and above.
The Area Commander claimed that the funds were intended to support operational and administrative activities within his command. He alleged that failure to release the allowances has placed his unit under financial strain while operating in one of the most security-sensitive areas of the state.
Gwazah further stated that his refusal to contribute ₦30,000 as part of what he described as an unauthorized contribution scheme led to the allege withholding of his funds. According to the petition, some officers were reportedly pressured to make the payments, while those who declined risked sanctions.
The officer also raised concerns about security implications, noting that the Benisheikh axis remains one of the areas frequently affected by insurgent activity in Borno State. He warned that the lack of operational funds could affect the ability of officers under his command to respond effectively to security threats.
In addition, the petition alleged irregular postings of police inspectors in civilian clothing to serve as orderlies to certain local government chairmen in Magumeri and Konduga. Gwazah stated that under police administrative regulations, local government chairmen are not entitled to inspectors as orderlies.
According to the petition, his objection to these postings reportedly led to tensions within the command and was followed by administrative actions affecting officers within the area command.
The petitioner has requested the intervention of the Inspector General of Police to investigate the allegations, ensure the release of the withheld funds, and address what he described as intimidation and administrative irregularities. The petition was also copied to the Governor of Borno State for awareness.
