Tensions have reportedly risen within the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following allegations that more than 50 party members could face arrest after protests over the outcome of recently conducted ward and local government congresses.
Sources within the party informed Wapcodehub9ja LIVE News that demonstrations began after some members raised concerns about alleged alterations to the list of executives that emerged from the congress process. The protests were said to have taken place in parts of the state as aggrieved members demanded clarification on the final list of affirmed party officials.
According to party insiders, the protesters accused certain leaders within the party structure of attempting to modify the list of executives originally produced during the congresses. The disagreement has reportedly created divisions among party stakeholders and grassroots members across several local government areas.
Sources further alleged that the situation escalated after instructions were reportedly given for security agencies to intervene following the protests. Some members claimed that security operatives were asked to move against individuals participating in the demonstrations.
The governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has been mentioned in connection with the alleged directive, although official clarification regarding the claims had not been publicly released at the time of this report.
Party members involved in the protest reportedly insisted that their actions were aimed at defending the integrity of the congress process and ensuring transparency within the party’s internal structure. Some of them called for a review of the results and a clear explanation regarding the contested executive lists.
Observers note that internal party congresses often play a crucial role in determining leadership structures at the grassroots level, making the process highly sensitive among party stakeholders. Disputes arising from such exercises can sometimes trigger disagreements among members competing for influence within the party hierarchy.
As the situation continues to develop, attention remains focused on whether party leaders and relevant authorities will initiate dialogue to resolve the concerns raised by the protesting members.
