The inaugural festival used culture, sport and community participation to create a platform for African communities and cultural exchange in Portugal’s Algarve region.

The inaugural AFRO EUFORICO Festival has brought together music, football, fashion and African community participation in Faro, Portugal, with the festival’s grand finale held on August 29, 2026, at Teatro das Figuras in the Algarve region.
The event was organised by Associação Afro Euforico as a cultural platform designed to promote African heritage while encouraging interaction between African communities, Portugal and the wider European environment. Participants and guests from Portugal, Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde were among those connected to the festival.
Music formed a major part of the programme, with BMAN, also known as Kingsley Mbilitem, and The Rebellious Zombies leading the performances. Other artistes and DJs who featured included Raquelle Gracie, YZY Weezy, DJ Baruba and DJ Mulaton.
Nigerian singer Brymo had initially been expected to perform at the event, but organisers said he was unable to participate because of difficulties relating to a Portuguese embassy appointment. His absence led to a change in the planned musical lineup for the festival.
Sport provided another major attraction through the inaugural AFRO EUFORICO Cup, a football competition involving five teams representing communities in the Algarve. Guinea-Bissau, representing Faro, emerged as champions after defeating Alpinistas 5-1 in the final, while Nigeria finished in third position.
The participating teams were recognised with gold, silver and bronze medals, while the winning Guinea-Bissau side received the inaugural AFRO EUFORICO Festival Cup. The football competition added a community and sporting dimension to an event otherwise centred strongly on music and cultural expression.
Fashion was also given a prominent place through the first AFRO EUFORICO Fashion Show, where contestants presented African-inspired styles and creative expressions. Francis Ofre won the male category, while Ogadinma Amaechi, popularly known as Oma of Faro, won the female category.
The fashion winners were offered an all-expenses-paid trip to Paris, including a visit to the Eiffel Tower, according to the organisers. The prize added an international tourism element to the festival’s cultural and creative programming.
Festival founder Jideofor Obidike said the inaugural edition experienced some operational difficulties, including delays in activating the ticket sales platform. Despite those challenges, he described the first edition as a successful starting point and indicated that the organisers intend to build on the experience.
Plans are already being developed for future AFRO EUFORICO activities, including international conferences expected to take place in Abuja and the Algarve in 2027. Organisers have also announced plans for another festival edition in the Algarve, with the proposed 2027 event expected to be positioned ahead of AFRO NATION under the promotional theme, “The Festival Before the Festival.”
