The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged murder and robbery of a family of six at Oloba Village in Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed the arrests in a statement issued on October 6, 2026, saying the investigation followed intelligence received on October 2 concerning an attack that occurred on September 22.

According to the police, the suspects — Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward — allegedly invaded the residence of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children at about 7 p.m.

Police said the suspects were armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club. They allegedly stole ₦200,000 in cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine.

The command alleged that Akinbami shot the husband during the attack, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward attacked the wife, hitting her on the head.

Police further alleged that two of the children were tied by their hands and legs and thrown into a nearby river, while the other members of the family were killed and their bodies also disposed of in the river.

Detectives who visited the scene recovered the family’s Boxer motorcycle, a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club allegedly used during the attack.

The police said the three suspects were arrested and subsequently interrogated, adding that they allegedly confessed to their involvement in the crime. The command, however, said the investigation is continuing.

The remains of the wife have been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to recover the remains of the husband and the four children, according to the police statement.

The suspects and case file are expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Iyaganku, for further investigation and necessary legal action.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has ordered a thorough investigation into the case and directed that anyone found culpable should face the law.
