The celebrity businessman says attacks over his political allegiance will only strengthen his commitment to President Bola Tinubu, while pointing to Lagos’ business environment as a factor behind his support.

Nigerian celebrity businessman Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying criticism directed at supporters of the president will not change his political position ahead of the 2027 general election.

In remarks shared in a video circulating on social media, the nightlife entrepreneur argued that attempts to bully people over their support for Tinubu would instead make them more committed to the president.

“The more they bully us for supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the more dedicated we are to loving him more,” he said.

Chief Priest also expressed confidence in his political choice, comparing his support for Tinubu to choosing between football clubs Real Madrid and Charlton FC.

“You don’t expect me to see Real Madrid and go follow Charlton FC,” he added.

Business Interests Behind His Political Position

The businessman also explained his support by referring to Lagos and its commercial environment.

He praised Tinubu’s influence on the development of Lagos, describing the city as a major centre of economic activity and business opportunities. Chief Priest argued that the environment had helped entrepreneurs grow their investments.

His remarks suggest that his political allegiance is linked, in part, to his assessment of the business opportunities associated with Lagos.

However, his praise of the city and his attribution of its development to Tinubu represent his personal assessment. The comments do not, on their own, establish the broader effects of the president’s policies on businesses or the Nigerian economy.

Public Support and Political Criticism

Chief Priest’s comments come as public figures continue to express their political positions ahead of the 2027 elections. His latest remarks place him among prominent entertainers and businesspeople who have openly discussed their support for political leaders.

The statement also highlights a familiar feature of political debate in Nigeria: disagreements over the choices of public figures and the reasons behind their allegiances.

While Chief Priest says criticism will not weaken his support for Tinubu, other Nigerians remain free to assess the president’s record and policies differently. Political support, like political opposition, remains part of public discourse in a democratic society.

The 2027 Election Conversation

As the next general election approaches, competing political camps are expected to continue defending their positions and challenging those of their opponents.

For voters, the debate extends beyond declarations of loyalty to questions about governance, economic conditions, public services and the results of government policies.

Chief Priest’s comments make clear that he intends to maintain his support for Tinubu despite criticism. His position, however, is a personal political choice rather than a measure of public opinion as a whole.

The president’s supporters and critics will continue to present competing assessments of his administration as the country moves towards the 2027 electoral contest.
