Paris Saint-Germain maintained their perfect start to the UEFA Champions League league phase with a 4–2 victory over Barcelona on Tuesday night, scoring twice in the closing stages to settle a fiercely contested encounter at the Parc des Princes.

The reigning European champions secured their third consecutive win in the competition on October 20, 2026, while Barcelona suffered their first defeat of the season after twice fighting back to level the score.

Désiré Doué, Lucas Hernández, Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz scored for the French side. Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal found the net for Barcelona, but their efforts were ultimately insufficient to prevent defeat.

Doué gives PSG first-half advantage

PSG began aggressively, creating early opportunities and putting Barcelona’s defence under pressure. The hosts threatened through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia before Doué eventually broke the deadlock in the 38th minute.

The forward finished from the edge of the penalty area after PSG regained possession, giving the home side a deserved lead following a period of attacking pressure.

Barcelona attempted to respond before the interval, but PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov made important interventions to preserve his team’s advantage.

The visitors also suffered a setback when Dani Olmo was forced off with an injury during the first half.

Barcelona fight back twice

Barcelona restored parity in the 55th minute through young defender Xavi Espart, who finished a move created by Fermín López to bring the visitors back into the contest.

PSG regained the lead in the 72nd minute when Hernández converted from a corner, putting the hosts ahead again after Barcelona had begun to build momentum.

The visitors responded once more. Yamal produced an impressive finish in the 79th minute to make it 2–2, raising hopes that Barcelona could extend their unbeaten start to the campaign.

However, PSG quickly re-established control. Vitinha restored the home side’s lead in the 81st minute with a powerful strike from the edge of the area after Barcelona failed to clear the danger.

Fabián Ruiz then completed the scoring in the 86th minute, finishing from close range after Achraf Hakimi delivered the ball across the penalty area.

The late goals ensured PSG secured all three points despite Barcelona’s determination to recover from successive setbacks.

PSG maintain momentum

The result gave PSG three victories from their opening three Champions League league-phase matches, keeping them among the early leaders in the competition.

For Barcelona, the defeat ended a remarkable winning run across all competitions and exposed defensive vulnerabilities against a PSG side capable of creating chances throughout the match.

Despite scoring twice, the Spanish club could not contain the hosts during the decisive final stages.

PSG’s ability to respond immediately after Barcelona’s second equaliser proved crucial, with Vitinha and Ruiz delivering the goals that separated the teams.

The result strengthens PSG’s position in the league phase as the competition continues, while Barcelona must regroup after their first setback of the campaign.
