The Fulani community in Jigawa State has announced its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umar Namadi and candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was announced during a gathering at the Manpower Development Institute in Dutse, the state capital. The event was organised under the leadership of Alhaji Shehu Hadejia, with community representatives using the occasion to recognise the state government’s livestock development programmes and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders.

Hadejia said the gathering was intended to acknowledge government interventions affecting herders and livestock production. He highlighted the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development, the gazetting of grazing reserves and animal vaccination programmes among the initiatives the community welcomed.

Governor Namadi described the gathering as an opportunity for Fulani representatives from different parts of Jigawa to express their political support. He said the community had endorsed Tinubu, himself and APC candidates in the state ahead of the next general elections. The announcement represents the position expressed at the gathering; it does not establish how every individual member of the community will vote.

The governor also outlined measures his administration says are intended to improve conditions for livestock owners. These include the provision of grazing areas and watering facilities, alongside efforts to cultivate alfalfa as animal feed. Namadi further disclosed that the state had invested approximately ₦3.1 billion in artificial insemination over the preceding two to three years, with the stated aim of improving cattle breeds and increasing milk production.

Jigawa Commissioner for Livestock Development, Professor Salim Mohammed, also highlighted the ministry’s work on grazing reserves, livestock vaccination and public awareness campaigns promoting peaceful relations between farming and herding communities. These initiatives form part of the state government’s approach to livestock development and the management of challenges affecting rural communities.

The endorsement adds to political activity ahead of the 2027 elections, as parties and groups continue to express support for prospective candidates. However, the gathering’s declaration should be understood as a public endorsement by the participating community representatives rather than a measure of the entire electorate’s voting intentions.

Beyond the political announcement, the event has brought renewed attention to livestock policy, rural livelihoods and the relationship between farmers and herders in Jigawa State. The impact of the government’s initiatives will ultimately depend on their implementation and their measurable effects on livestock production, community relations and the welfare of residents.
