The Ogun State Government has approved ₦50,000 in welfare support for each of the 3,050 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members participating in the 2026 Batch C, Stream I orientation programme at the state’s camp in Sagamu.

The intervention, approved by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, amounts to ₦152.5 million in individual payments if all 3,050 eligible corps members receive the approved sum.

According to a statement signed by Wasiu Isiaka, Ogun State Commissioner for Sports Development, disbursement of the money commenced on Monday, 19 October 2026. The support is intended to help corps members meet personal and essential expenses during their orientation period.

The announcement comes as the state receives corps members preparing to begin their mandatory national service assignments.

Government Targets Corps Members’ Welfare

The state government said the intervention was designed to ease some of the financial pressures facing young Nigerians as they adjust to the demands of national service.

Many corps members travel away from their families and familiar environments to attend orientation and subsequently undertake assignments in their host communities. The additional support is intended to help them manage expenses during this transition.

The government also acknowledged the contribution of corps members to national development through their participation in sectors such as education, healthcare and community development.

The welfare payment forms part of the state’s stated commitment to supporting corps members during their service year.

Sagamu Orientation Camp to Receive 500 Mattresses

Alongside the cash assistance, the Ogun State Government has approved the donation of 500 mattresses to the NYSC orientation camp in Sagamu.

The provision is intended to improve accommodation conditions as the number of corps members deployed to the state increases.

The growing intake places additional demands on camp facilities and essential amenities. The mattress donation is expected to help address some of those accommodation needs and support a more comfortable orientation environment.

The government said it would continue to explore measures to improve camp facilities in response to changing requirements and the number of corps members received by the state.

Support for National Service

The NYSC scheme is designed to promote national integration, cultural exchange, discipline and service to communities across Nigeria. Corps members are deployed to different locations where they contribute their skills and knowledge to local institutions and development activities.

The Ogun State Government encouraged participants to embrace the values of patriotism, tolerance, discipline and selfless service, while making productive use of the opportunities available during their service year.

The intervention also places attention on the practical needs of corps members during orientation, including personal expenses and adequate accommodation.

With the cash support approved for 3,050 participants and 500 mattresses earmarked for the Sagamu camp, the state has announced both financial and material measures aimed at supporting the current orientation exercise.

The effectiveness of the measures will ultimately depend on the delivery of the approved assistance and the continued maintenance of suitable facilities for corps members throughout their service.
